Open Education Consulting seeks to increase participation, successful achievement, and inclusiveness in education using innovative principles and processes, relevant instructional design methodologies and appropriate use of technology. Passionately providing practical and affordable approaches to equip clients and their beneficiaries with the knowledge and skills required to implement and scale appropriate educational solutions with a view to maximising the value of their work.

 

Background

 

Cathy MacDonald is an expert educational consultant and project and programme manager with over 22 years of experience. Cathy has substantial experience in the management of large-scale, multifaceted educational projects with multiple participants and stakeholders across South Africa, Africa and internationally. This experience includes designing online/blended materials, content, and course development (including using OERs), research, evaluation and usability testing, providing general consulting and strategic support in the education sector, as well as meeting design and reporting requirements of a wide range of intergovernmental organisations, donors/funders including Data.FI/Palladium (with funding from USAID), the Hewlett Foundation, the PHEA (Partnership for Higher Education in Africa) (with funding from Carnegie Corporation of New York, Ford Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation), The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Common Wealth of Learning (COL) as well as the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

She is enthusiastic about providing practical and affordable approaches to equip clients and their beneficiaries with the knowledge and skills required to implement and scale appropriate educational solutions with a view to maximising the value of their work. In this way, she hopes to effect meaningful change and contribute to the development of education.

 

Cathy believes that education plays a pivotal role in equipping today's youth with the essential skills required to create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and foster their active engagement and accountability as responsible members of society.
